Wow this by far the best video comparaison between both type of motor that I ever seenThanks you this was very clear and informative
Hi I'm looking to buy an ebike for commuting to work want something to finance in the $2500 -$3000 range my commute is 10 miles give or take round trip I live in Brooklyn ny I'm 6 feet and 250 lbs any recommendations?
Look up XION rear hub motors. They operate very much like a mid drive. The XION is 250 watts with a maximum of 1100watts so you have plenty of power going up hills. The XION rear hub motor in my view is the best on the market
Thank you. That was very helpful. What is the name of the folder in the video?
I have a Catrike Dumont with stock 10x cassette and three chain rings in the front. My old trike is equipped with a Rohloff speedhub 14-speed IGH and a Schlumpf. I'm not wild about the Schlumpf HSD but I love my Rohloff. My Catrike is fast. Superfast. Much faster than my old chromoly trike with Rohloff and Schlumpf HSD. My LBS is pitching a Bionx kit and refuses to do an erad/bafang mid drive. Another LBS says they'll do an erad middrive (really a front drive on the boom of the recumbent trike). I guess I don't have to be wedded to the Rohloff. I know it's heavier. Uses: mostly commuting, local paved bike trails, but occasional unpaved trail and desire (fantasy) to take it off road on Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail and Trans America Trail. So the Rohloff would be low maintenance. The Schlumpf has not proven to be low maintenance. So which is better? Erad or Bionx hub?
I know this is an older video but thank you NYCeWheels for the clear concise comparison. I'm considering either a TerraTrike with a hub motor or a Hase Trigo with a Steps system and a differential. It would be my second "car."
Mid drive not have regenerate braking, that is big minus, i think.
Excellent review, thanks
WHAT… why shouldn´t you put some cargo on the back of a hub engine… makes no sense.
Balance for what, …carry it around? Sry but your arguments are hard to follow.
There s a lot of one sidet points of view.
I'm a big guy 280 pounds what best system for my weight mid drive or hub
What do you think of these new crowdfunded bikes like Flux (mid drive) and Flash (hub drive)?
most of the bikes have the motor on the front wheel few on the rear wheel. what is better? thanks.
try two bikes that are more evenly matched
Main differences covered, well done!
Hub motors are having a certain rpm in which they have the best efficiency. Above or below they drain more amps thus need more energy. Geared hubs do have more low end torque while gearless hubs run better at high rpm. But that's too technical for a general comparison video and you have already covered that in a separate video… 😉
You could have mention the noise level of both motors also.
Superb presentation.
There's a lot of jargon that newbies like me need to have defined and differentiated well and simpler. ?
Is the hub bike foldable? What is the life span of the hub bikes & can you give me an idea of the price range of the hub bike in the movie above. Or just a link to the hub bike…thx
what's the name of the second bike looks great
